“Life’s Term” Review of JAY GARRICK: THE FLASH #6

If you want to see the “Dawn of DC” at it’s best, look no further than JAY GARRICK: THE FLASH. This mini-series has shown respect for the OG Flash while mixing in the new “lost” daughter Judy Garrick and making their adventures into must-read stories. Writer Jeremy Adams has given us a finale that begs for an ongoing series. This issue is one of the most powerful stories I’ve read in a long time. Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

This issue starts with the best splash page featuring Jay Garrick…ever. The raw emotion, the determination, and the amazing power of Jay Garrick are captured so well that I can’t imagine anything better. Jay is on the way to rescue Judy, but Doctor Elemental throws everything…and I mean everything in the way.

Here’s where Jeremy Adams handles the character so well. We see a powerful hero feeling every bit of his age, worried that even his best effort may not be enough. Jay pushes himself beyond anything he may have believed he could do, willing to sacrifice anything and everything to save Judy.

The battle is epic, with Jay giving his last, best effort. I don’t think we’ve ever seen Jay Garrick more powerful or more impressive. The story takes a turn at the end that is guaranteed to grab your heartstrings. It’s been a long time since I’ve come this close to crying when reading a comic, but this story truly got to me. I’ll leave the ending up to you to read, but for now let’s go to…

NOTES:

  • CAN WE GET AN ONGOING HERE?
  • Did I ask if we could get an ongoing? Yes I did!
  • One more time – CAN WE GET AN ONGOING SERIES?
  • The script by Jeremy Adams has been outstanding from the first page of issue #1 through the finale. Can’t say enough about him!
  • The artwork has been stellar – this is the definitive Jay and Judy Garrick. Every other artist team, please take note.

SUMMARY:

This is my first 11/10 – yep, we’re dialing up the rating to 11! Of course, that’s just my opinion – what do YOU think? Leave your comments below!

“Finish Line” Review of SPEED FORCE #6

This series has taken me back to the fun of reading the early Teen Titans stories. That makes sense, especially with the Mad Mod showing up. But it’s more than that. This series has returned us to the joy of being able to go SO fast! At the same time, we’ve seen a threat that looks just beyond the abilities of our heroes to defeat. Can they find a way to overcome the danger of Symphonee? What will the finale of this excellent mini-series give us? Wanna know more? Follow us after the jump!
